Aquafan is one of the first water parks in Italy, as it was opened in Riccione in 1987. The park was soon a hit among teenagers, also due to its partnership with Radio Deejay, one of the most listened-to radios in Italy. It welcomes more than 600,000 visitors each year, making it the most visited water park in Italy and one of the most renowned in Europe. Built on the famous hill overlooking Riccione, it spreads over 150,000 m2 (11,500 m2 of swimming pools, 78,500 m2 of green areas and services, 60,000 m2 of parking lot) and it caters for everyone: Water slides, a wave pool, a slow and fast running river, theme pools for children, hot tubs and live entertainment. Within the park, Walky Cup is a very famous club among young people. Very famous Italian DJs started their career and played right here. In 2004, Aquafan management expanded the area and widened its leisure time offer by building two new areas close to the water park: The IMAX cinema and Oltremare, the new marine-themed park combining fun and education.
